About Ping
Ping is a basic network utility that sends ICMP Echo Request packets to a target host and listens for Echo Reply responses. It is commonly used to:
- Verify that a host is reachable on the network
- Measure round-trip latency (delay)
- Detect packet loss
Note: Many hosts and firewalls block ICMP, so a failed ping does not always mean the host is offline. Browser-based ping tools typically require a server-side component because browsers cannot send raw ICMP packets.
